Phone: 252-986-2995

The analysis of the Corolla Wreck, presented an opportunity to study early 17th century wooden ship remains in the context of early European settlement of Atlantic North America. Numerous research questions, stemming from archaeological and historical observations, sought to answer whether the extant remains of the wreck could offer conclusions as to the shipwreck’s origins when compared to contemporary wreck sites. Historical research provides possible answers as to the origin and purpose of this wreck, and what part it may have played in Atlantic commerce and colonization. Presenter: Daniel Mark Brown, South Carolina Institute for Archaeology and Anthropology. Free program. 11 a.m. The program will also be streamed LIVE during a 6 p.m. online presentation at http://csi.northcarolina.edu/ustream. AUG 04, 2015 – AUG 07, 2015

1701 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948
Phone: 252-207-9950

After appearances on Last Comic Standing, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Star Search, and David Letterman, Moody McCarthy is no longer a well-kept secret. With sharp, versatile material and an old-school ethic, Moody has performed all over North America and Asia and left them wanting more. Moody’s material is described as smart and universal without being trite. Couple that with a disarming stage presence & in-the-moment chops, you’ll see why he’s earned the admiration of his peers for his ability to “go up cold” and turn a dormant setting into a lively comedy room. Now based in New York City, he’s become a regular in the town’s best rooms and grown into an act that thrives in any setting, from upscale country clubs to divey pubs. Weaving sly topical jokes with crafty material and a dash of crowd-work, Moody’s likeability shines in any setting! SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS

JUN 11, 2015

41027 Hwy 12, Avon, NC 27915
Phone: 252-995-3125
Email: [email protected]

Long the bards of downward mobility, Southern Culture on the Skids have always embodied a sleazy, raucous, good-natured, good-time take on the culture of the South. Recently described by Dwight Yoakam (in Filter) as “really on the outside, like Dick Dale meets Hank Thompson,” SCOTS have mixed high and low culture for decades, endlessly touring, serving up moonshine martinis and poultry picking for fans everywhere. Since 1983, when they formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, SCOTS have played their unique hybrid of Americana, surf, R&B, rockabilly, and swamp pop (the band describes their sound as “toe sucking geek rock – kinda weird, but it feels good when you’re doing it”), all the while driving fans into ecstatic, sweat-drenched paroxysms of joy. Assisted by his cohorts in chaos drummer Dave Hartman and bassist/singer/heartbreaker Mary Huff Miller and crew have been prolific and ubiquitous for over twenty years.
