Come run (walk or ride) a fun route (approx. 1 Mile) on Friday, December 12th through downtown Manteo’s beautiful Christmas lights! Fun begins at 6PM at the Roanoke Island Running Company located at 107 F Budleigh Street. Strollers and bicycles welcome (light them up!!) to join in on the fun! Hot Cocoa, Christmas Cookies & Holiday Music to follow in the Pavilion! Free Glow items (Sticks & Necklaces) will be provided to participants while supplies last! Bring your own additional glow products, safety gear and flash lights as needed or desired!

The Friday Promenade on the sidewalk in Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo, takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Along the sidewalk, villagers & businesses will be serving hot drinks & other goodies. Walk, jog, ride a bike, skate the sidewalk. Bring flashlights and/or wear lights to light the way. At 4 p.m. at the Community Building, lights for bikes of young bike riders will be installed. Businesses in the villages will be open for shopping before and during the promenade. Children and adults alike will marvel at Winter Wonderland train display by master model builder Charlie Klein. There will be a children’s holiday craft table, letters to Santa (almost certainly to receive a reply from Santa) and a professional puppet show. Live entertainment will be provided by local choral groups, individual performances by local musicians as well as professional musical entertainment throughout the day. Refreshments will include a variety of hot soups, ham biscuits, holiday cookies and punch. There will be multi-themed fully decorated holiday trees, and shoppers will continue to receive an additional 5 percent off purchases when they bring a donation for the food bank. Enjoy the Museum’s new floral theme to the displays with fresh flowers and greenery. Holiday decorations will be for sale at modest prices or at cost. The event is free to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum.

Children will participate in festive reindeer games and seasonal crafts with Aquarium Elves, decorate sweets with Mrs. Claus, and share their holiday wishes with Santa. Guests may even catch a glimpse of Santa scuba diving with the sharks and the fishes in our Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit! Families will be sure to get in the holiday spirit with this memorable event with a unique fishy flare.
Our Great White Fishmas event runs on December 13th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. We encourage visitors to participate in the entire time of the event, in order to savor the true experience and allow time to meet Santa. Open to all ages.

The Dare County Arts Council’s annual end-of-year fundraiser returns on December 13, 2014, this time with a twist. The organization’s December Decadence event will take place at 108 Budleigh in Manteo and is being presented by Black Pelican and Holiday House. A strong lineup of several culinary artists from throughout the area will be creating one-of-a-kind desserts in this unique show to benefit the DCAC. Local musicians, Aquarium, will perform, and Black Pelican will be providing heavy hors d’oeuvres throughout the night. Prior to doors opening for the main event, the DCAC will host a champagne reception and open house in their building, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Manteo at 6:00pm. This function will feature a performance by the Manteo High School Jazz Band. The Arts Council’s Silent Auction will boast over thirty items, which have been donated by local businesses and artisans who are uniting for the cause.

The Dare County Youth Orchestra cordially invites the public to attend a benefit concert performance by Trio La Mer, to be held on Sunday, December 14, at 2pm, at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.
The seasoned trio consists of Leslie Erickson, violin; Sue Waters, viola; and John Buford, piano. Premiering in 2006, the trio uses their annual holiday recital to raise funds and awareness for local non-profits. Past concerts benefitted The Elizabethan Gardens, Food Bank and Food for Thought. This year they assist the youth orchestra. The Dare County Youth Orchestra was founded in 2007 with grant funding from the Dare Education Foundation and the Outer Banks Community Foundation.
