A winter storm warning is in effect for Dare County and the National Weather Service’s latest forecast shows increased potential for freezing rain and sleet north of Oregon Inlet. Travel may become hazardous with ice covered roads and bridges, particularly north of Oregon Inlet. Power outages may be more prevalent due to ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs.
With the greater potential for freezing rain and sleet followed by temperatures below freezing, road condition could remain poor through the weekend and into Monday.
On Monday, January 9, Dare County Offices will be open and trash collection will remain on schedule unless weather conditions prohibit safe travel. Please monitordarenc.com/WinterWeather for any updates or changes, safety tips and important contact information.
Be aware that the National Weather Service has also issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for soundside locations and are predicting water levels 2 to 3 feet above normal Saturday morning through early Monday.
