After clicking Submit below wait until you receive a confirmation code as a text message. You must then enter the confirmation code. If you forgot you can re-enter your information and click Resend Code. This verifies you are the owner of the cell phone number your entered.

This is mainly used as a demonstration system. Do not expect to get SMS text updates from us.

Technical Definitions

I do not want to take away from the benefits of Social Media like MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and others. However, it is important to point out that these systems have come and gone in popularity. One day Facebook will be replaced or diminish in popularity just like MySpace and Twitter.

The one thing that will remain the same is your website. Rather, I should say your domain name. Your website should and likely will always change. I have asked all my kids what they think of businesses that use Facebook. They all say if Facebook is the only thing or the primary thing a business has they usually don’t click it.

However, with today’s new web 2.0 systems you can add your items to Facebook or any other Social Media site with one click or automatically. The one click method allows you to pick and choose the items you send to your Social Media page. The other option is to use an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication). Consult with your Social Media provider to see which ones work with their system.

Remember, you need a website capable of sending out RSS feeds to accomplish this.

The uses of a QR Code (Quick Response) are many. We discussed how real estate sales and rental agencies might use them. We also discussed car dealers and others. However, Island Limo – one of our new clients – added theirs to their Beach Book ad. You can place one on your store front so people can see your menu, hours of operation or any other information quickly. You can add it to your business card and link to a YouTube video or your website. You can create a business card and add the QR Code to a rack card to save space and allow people to store the info in their mobile device. In addition, it is eco friendly and can go a long way in replacing redundant paper items. Your imagination is the limit.

Remember,  your website can automatically produce QR Codes for each page or blog post. If you simply want to make your own there are many places to do that on the web. You can even use our .org site by clicking here. The generator is on the left side below the Registration and Log In area.

How much information they can hold? The answer seems to depend upon the size. For example, a QR Code that is 177 x 177 pixels wide can hold up to 4,296 characters according to Wikipedia.

As promised here is a quick re-cap of items discussed at Bonnie’s Bagels.

When 4G arrives most tourists will likely opt out of brining their laptop & notebook computers. Approximately 17.8 % of visitors to our website currently use mobile devices like smart phones, Ipods & Craigs using the Android operating system. Your website needs to be convert automatically to mobile view for easier reading and access on smaller screens.

The G in 3 and 4G stands for “Generation.” 4 G is expected to be nationwide no later than 2013 and is already in most larger cities. Discussions of 5G are already taking place.

Your website can also be converted to an iPhone application style system. This is a step above simple mobile compliance. If you have an iPhone, Android or Blackberry you can easily show mobile customers a different landing page and many other features. We are working hard to improve that feature on our main website at EverythingOuterBanks.com!

Simply put web 2.0 (two point 0h) is the ability of your website to interact with social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and hundreds of other competing social media systems. Web 2.0 also allows your site visitors to interact with your website by leaving comments and and allowing teams of people to contribute their ideas via Posts and Comments.

When properly set up web 2.0 systems allow various ways of staying in touch with website visitors. Some of these are RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feeds. RSS can be used several ways. If you use Microsoft Outlook and other email clients you can have the latest updates come to the email client. If you use Gmail, Hotmail etc you can also add RSS Feeds. RSS feeds can also be added to other web 2.0 websites. For example, if you get a web 2.0 website from us we can feed your latest information into our website. These feeds link back to your website. In essence, we become the hub of the wheel.

Web 2.0 systems also come with things referred to as “Plugins” or “Addons” that expand your capabilities. Some of these systems can save you large amounts of money. For example, there is no need to pay Constant Contact and similar companies. All the software is installed on your system.

Another great new feature is the ability to send out text messages to subscribers right from your website. These text messages can go to as many people as subscribe. The subscribers can also be arranged into groups so you can customize who gets a text message.

If you see it done on the web, it can usually be achieved by a web 2.0 system.
