The 2nd Annual Beach Food Pantry Holiday Chefs Challenge will be held on Thursday, December 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, Kitty Hawk. Outer Banks Chefs will compete in this exciting and fun-filled event for the title of Outer Banks Chef of the Year! Each chef will have 60 minutes to create a delicious appetizer, dessert, or entree’ based upon a list of everyday food items that are distributed by the Beach Food Pantry. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite chefs by using and purchasing Culinary Coins, and the chef receiving the most votes will take home the title! So come prepared to have fun and participate in the competition by voting for your favorite chef or chefs! Event goers will also be able to sample signature dishes provided by the chefs and their restaurants, bid on great prize baskets, and enjoy festive holiday music from a host of Outer Banks musicians.

An interdisciplinary team from East Carolina University is investigating a set of diverse maritime cultural sites in the Wilmington area that represent either a preservation risk or a potential resource to be showcased for heritage tourism. Case studies include a historic lighthouse, boathouse, wharves, coastal confederate earthworks, plantation and Civil War shipwrecks, fish houses, and Native American riverine sites. Join us for a FREE winter climb of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 10 am to 2 pm.

Children must be at least 42″ tall to climb the lighthouse. Children under 12 must be escorted by a person at least 16 years old.

Climbing the lighthouse is strenuous. Climbing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is equivalent to climbing a 12-story building.
